Cookie Monster Goes Soft, Orson Gets A Cold, House Fever

I don’t watch the news too much; it either depresses me or pisses me off. Local news is boring and the national news, well, I can only hear about so many American soldiers dying in Iraq in one day. Between the suicide bombers, kidnappings, beheadings, and just plain killing in the name of Allah I’ve had my fill of the whole, messy thing. But, every so often, I hear a story that catches my attention, one that makes me smile even. There’s something about a gay-bashing gay Republican mayor to make me believe that there is actually some ironic justice in the world.

In other news, Cookie Monster is changing his gluttonous ways:

Sesame Street character gets healthy, learns to control cravings

WTF???? Since when does a Cookie Monster not gorge on cookies? I mean, I’m all for eating fruits and vegetables but why does Cookie Monster have to be the one to do it? Cookies are his whole reason for being! What if The Count stopped teaching counting and started teaching dancing? Why can’t that stupid owl be the healthy eating spokesperson? Do we really need to blame our fat kids on a puppet? This is why McDonald’s gets sued for making people fat. We smoke cigarettes that we know cause cancer yet we sue Phillip Morris when we get it. A five year old shoots himself in the head with a .45 because somebody wasn’t responsible enough to keep it locked up so we sue Remington. What if someone gets killed by a falling boulder? Do we sue the mountain? Too many people are just looking for someone or something to blame; the next scapegoat. Take responsibility and be a parent. If your kid wants a whole bag of chocolate chip cookies explain to him the difference between television and reality and give him only one. I watched Cookie Monster growing up and I’m not fat. There’s always someone else to blame; the terrorists, the big corporations, the Devil, and now, the Cookie Monster.

So, now that I’m off my soap box, here’s the skinny on what’s happening around my place:
Orson has his first cold. He’s snotty, coughing, and crabby. His poor little eyes are red and swollen and he’s just upset about the whole thing. But he’s such a good little boy that he’s still behaving so well. He’s hardly cried at all; he just sits there looking pitiful. It’s awful. I know it’s just a cold but still, I hate seeing him suffer at all. Unfortunately that’s life though and we’ve all got to go through it. We’re keeping a close eye on him to make sure he doesn’t get any worse but the doctor’s office believes it’s just a cold and he’ll be better within a week or so.

Speaking of Orson; he’s now eating rice cereal! We give him a tablespoon before bed. He took to it without hesitation, just like I knew he would (he’s so perfect). I put pictures of his first foray into spoon feeding in his photo gallery (click the link in the left menu) and I updated this in his blog.

Not a lot has happened recently with me; I’ve been working on my data warehouse project and my website as well as helping taking care of Orson and the house. It keeps me pretty busy.

We saw a house I’d love to buy but we’re just not ready yet. I’m kinda wanting to get into a bigger house but I don’t want to settle for something less than what we really want. It’s worth it to stick around here and wait until we’re ready. I like the house we live in though so it’s not bad. I’ll get a car in the meantime (in about a year and a half) so that’ll tide me over. I can wait.
