Orson’s First Trip to the “Motherland”

Orson made his first trip back to West Virginia this past weekend to meet his grandparents. We left the Friday before the July 4th weekend and broke up the drive over two days both on the way there and back in order to make the trip easier for Orson (and us). He traveled like a pro, sleeping most of the way there and back.

My parents really took to Orson, helping to feed and change him while we were there. He really put on a show for them too; laughing, squealing and smiling all the time. I’m glad they were finally able to see him in person.

We met up with Dave and Amy Saturday night and went to dinner with them. They hadn’t seen Orson since March and were very impressed with how much he’s grown since then. We picked up Donut Connection donuts, one of the few things we still can’t get in St. Louis.

Of course we drove around our old haunts for nostalgia and we were once again amazed at how different things look in WV compared to St. Louis. The weird thing is that everything looks strangely familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time. It’s always a strange experience coming back again. We started our mornings off right with a “Duke” from Tudor’s biscuit world, something else we don’t have in St. Louis.

We all had dinner at the new Olive Garden and Orson got to meet his cousin, Todd for the first time. Todd is now 3 years old. We took a dip in my parents’ pool and then caught up with other relatives.

All in all it was a good trip and I was glad to see my family again, as I’m sure they were glad to see us. Hopefully we’ll be able to get together again soon.
