We’re Moved In!

At long last we’ve finally moved into our new place. We signed our paperwork on Friday of last week and the movers moved just about all of our stuff that day. We used Graebel Van Lines. These guys weren’t cheap but they did an excellent job. You get what you pay for, really, and the moving industry is full of crooks. It took them nine hours to move our stuff and I didn’t see these guys taking too many breaks along the way. Our agent was Jim Potterfield and he was actually our agent when we bought our last house. Our loan broker was Kenny Rosenthal (also the same as the last time). I recommend all these people; they did a great job for us.

We have most of our living space cleared of boxes and debris. We still have the finished portion of the basement, the garage, and Traci’s room to go. We also still have to hang blinds and curtains and have our dishwasher installed. This was my sixth move in ten years and overall it wasn’t too terribly difficult of a move, at least when compared to our other moves. I did the first five moves by myself. There’s no way I could do that now; we just have too much stuff.

So we’re now settling in and getting used to all the additional room we have. It’s starting to feel more like home now that we’ve been there for a few days. It’s weird; I drive past our old house and it really no longer feels like ours. I noticed once we had our stuff in the new house it already seemed like home so I wonder what really makes a home? Is it the dwelling itself or is it the stuff you have? I think being surrounded by my things brought a familiarity to the place immediately. Regardless I’m glad we got the move out of the way (for the most part) and now we can relax a bit. I don’t plan on moving again, that’s for sure.
