Tom DeLay…Another Hypocrite?

I’m being unusually political as of late but I just learned something very interesting. Tom DeLay, the Jesus Freak who spearheaded the “fight to save Terri Schiavo”, actually pulled the plug on his own father. His father suffered catastrophic brain damage in an accident in 1988 and DeLay pulled the plug on him. There are differences in the cases but essentially they’re very, very similar.
Now how is it that DeLay can pull the plug on his own father but insist that pulling the plug on Schiavo is wrong? It was inconclusively proven that Schiavo would never, never, never return to her former state. Her brain had atrophied to half its original size. That’s catastrophic brain damage. DeLay’s father’s kidneys failed and he would required dialysis to survive. Schiavo required a feeding tube to survive. Same thing.
It’s disgusting to me that this man can feel justified in subjecting a woman who had suffered enough to more suffering just to pander to religious conservatives for votes.
Arthur C. Clarke once said: “The greatest tragedy in mankind’s entire history may be the hijacking of morality by religion.” There’s a misconception that religion automatically equals morality. Unfortunately it’s not true; religion is more about rules, power, and control than it is about right and wrong. Do the research and you’ll see the pattern throughout history. I’m not saying I don’t necessarily believe there’s a god, I’m just saying what Thomas Paine essentially said; that these systems of rules are created solely by man to enslave mankind and monopolize power and profit.
Bottom line: if it was okay for DeLay to do it then it was okay for Michael Shiavo to do it. It was none of DeLay’s business.
FACT: Chuck Norris let the dogs out.

[...] What’s ironic is that Bush claims to be pro-life (or perhaps more accurately stated, anti-choice). I have a little trouble buying this, since Bush, serving for six years as governer of Texas, presided over 152 executions (4). During the whole Terri Schiavo fiasco Bush (with Tom DeLay and the religious right) yammered about a “culture of death” yet he had no problems presiding over more executions than any other governer in the recent history of the United States (4). Of course we’re talking about executing rapists and murderers here, but I would imagine that killing anyone-even as punishment for murder-contributes to an overall “culture of death”. [...]
