Disaster Recovery

It’s been a while since I posted; I got caught up weekend before last in a data disaster recovery here at home. Unfortunately I had severe data corruption occur on my file server and partial file corruption on my backup drive. I hadn’t updated some of my DVD backups in a while so I spent about four days struggling to recover my data. Luckily I only lost minor stuff; all of the important stuff was backed up somewhere. I’d been waiting on buying a second backup disk which would have prevented these issues.

So I, the King of All Backups, got burned. I made lots of DVD backups after restoring my files, then restored my backup drive. Very, very soon I will be buying a second 250 gig drive to alternate backups on in order to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Fortunately though I was actually able to get some new pictures loaded to the website photo gallery last weekend. If you get some time check them out.

Besides working on the data warehouse at work and fixing problems here at home I haven’t done much else. I gave my car its yearly wash, tuned up the lawn mower, and mowed the lawn; pretty exciting stuff. What will be exciting, however, is going to see Tool in Kansas City on September 15. We just got the tickets in last week and I’m pumped. This could be their last tour and we don’t want to miss it. We’re going to K.C. and then, if they do actually come to St. Louis, we’ll see them again. I’d follow them like the Dead if I could!
