Freedom Is A Gift

I was driving down Fyler again today, as I normally do, and passed my favorite church marquee. This is the same church whose members, in the past, have informed me that they were against human cloning and ordered me to vote “no” on amendment 2. They’ve also asked me whose voice I was listening to and following with this same marquee.

Tonight’s message was smack with an irony …read more »

Big Brother is Watching

We have a pretty big problem here in St. Louis with people running red lights. I’ve always hoped we could do something about it and when I saw that the city was installing camera systems in order to nail red light runners I thought it would be a positive thing.

Now, however, I’m not so sure. I guess I always had a “Big Brother” fear about this type of “police enforcement” but I pushed it down hoping this was a step in the right direction and for the common good. I mistakenly thought that the city would only be concerned about people running red lights. I consider that to be extremely dangerous. Turns out they’re also interested in another type of “infraction”; turning right on red without coming to a complete stop first.

First off, I’m not saying I didn’t do it. …read more »

Tool in St. Louis

Tool Finally, after months of waiting, Tool made it to St. Louis last night. This show was a little different than the one we saw in Kansas City; they played Right In Two instead of Aenima and they played up the laser show during Wings For Marie/10,000 Days. We were a little closer this time but still further away than I would prefer. Unfortunately that’s unavoidable; the days of seeing Tool at small venues (like we did in 1996) are over. The band is just too big for those places now. The place was apparently sold out; I couldn’t see any sections that looked empty.

The opening band was okay; not the worst but not the best. I think they were called …read more »

Prince Orson

During our trip to the Magic House last week Orson made a paper crown, bedazzled with jewels and decorated with ribbon and markers. He’s been wearing this thing ever since and it’s …read more »

Don’t Hassle the Hoff!

One Trimester Down, Two To Go

We just had our first trimester checkup and everything is fine. Junior appears to have all his/her arms and legs and he/she is moving around like a raver tripping on X (if you look hard enough you can see the glow sticks). Due date is still approximately December 24th so maybe we’ll catch a break on our taxes this time around. The doctor said he saw nothing out of the ordinary and everything was progressing as expected.

So now we have to do the “quadruple screen” which checks for …read more »

Silversun Pickups

Silversun PickupsWhen I find a new band that I like I love to share that knowledge with the rest of the world; or at least with a few close friends. With so many shitty bands around it’s nice when you happen upon a group of people who are interested in making good music that doesn’t necessarily fit into the mold of what is currently the big money maker (rap, emo).

Silversun Pickups really didn’t impress me at first listen. Well, maybe they did, but I didn’t want to admit it. When I first heard their single, “Lazy Eye”, I thought it sounded a lot like Smashing Pumpkins. I said, ‘we’ve already had one Smashing Pumpkins so what’s the point? I’ll just listen to the original’. I dismissed them pretty quickly but then heard them again and then another time. The third time around I couldn’t deny that “Lazy Eye” now had my interest piqued, so I went out to the “Interweb” using my favorite peer to peer software and downloaded the album. I listened to it, loved it, and went out and bought the album that night. (Yes, I do download music but if I like the band then I go buy the album. I use downloaded music as a way to preview an album I’m not sure about.)

If Smashing Pumpkins and Sonic Youth had a baby …read more »

Belated Goodbye to Our Pal Jerry

Falwell

After 73 years of hate, intolerance, and bigotry Falwell has finally succeeded in making the world a better place. As a farewell I’d like to present a few quotes by the dearly departed: …read more »
