Baby Trent

So the new baby is here and things are going well. It took a couple days to get back into the swing of things again; it’s been three years since we had a newborn in the house and one tends to get a bit rusty. Regardless, it’s sort of like riding a bike; you never really forget. After a couple days struggling with the tiny diapers, thrashing legs, and limp neck it was business as usual.

What I found interesting about this baby is that things didn’t stop around our house when he came home. When Orson was born we had no previous children so everything sort of stopped and revolved around him. There was a “breaking in” period, so to speak, and then we adjusted our schedule and patterns around him. This time, however, there was none of that. We’re three year veteran now so when Trent came home we just carried on, getting him on our schedule immediately. Orson still had to be fed, the house still needed cleaned, the floor vacuumed and the dishes washed. It’s not any less special, it’s just…different this time around.

What’s also nice is that we have experience to draw on. That honestly makes a big difference.

What keeps freaking me out is that Trent looks almost exactly like Orson. Trent was larger, almost 7 1/2 pounds versus Orson at only 4 1/2 pounds, but Trent just looks like Orson did when Orson was maybe two or three months old. The resemblance is striking, compounded by the fact that Trent is wearing many of Orson’s hand-me-downs. Below are a couple of photos to show the resemblance:

Orson and Trent

Weird, huh?

Anyway, they both look like Traci. That’s probably a good thing; did you see me in those pictures? Yeah, I know I’ve gained some weight, don’t even bring it up. That’ll be coming off in 2008.

So, we’ve fallen into our routine with Trent now. Orson is doing okay with it, for the most part. I’ve written more extensively about his experience on Orson’s website. Trent’s site has been updated too. I hope to update them again today or tomorrow with the latest news.

Overall it’s exciting, although tiring. I’m glad he’s finally here and in a lot of ways I’m glad we’re finally finished having children. I’m looking forward to when Trent gets a little older and can start playing with Orson. They’re really more fun after around age two. Then they’re walking and talking. Not that I want to speed up time; it’s going fast enough as is.
