My First Wordpress Plugin

Wordpress LogoWell, I finally got around to writing my first Wordpress plugin. This plugin allows you to integrate the five most recent posts in your phpBB3 forum into the sidebar of your Wordpress blog. The plugin creates an unordered list of links to these posts using the post title as the link text. You can configure the number of recent posts easily within the plugin code. I hope as I have more time to be able to extend and …read more »

New Windows

WindowsIt’s official: we’re getting new windows! We had Robert Viviano from Viviano Door & Windows come out and give us a quote last week and we signed the paperwork a few days ago. Viviano did the windows in our previous house and we loved them. Vivano’s installers did a great job last time. Actually, the same installers will be

Wordpress 2.5 RC2 and CoppermineSC

Update: The plugin author, Brad, has fixed this issue and has released an updated version.

If you don’t already know Wordpress 2.5 RC2 is out now. I’m now using it but I had a major issue with one plugin: CoppermineSC. This plugin allows me to tie my Coppermine photo gallery into my Wordpress blog. When activated it broke all my other plugins and WP functions. I really can’t run my sites without this plugin so it was imperative that found a solution to this problem. After several days of fretting and research I’ve solved the problem.

The New Dyson

DysonTraci finally had enough of our piece of crap Hoover Windtunnel vacuum so she decided that we were replacing it. She’d been eying the Dysons for some time so when she got the 20% off coupon from Bed, Bath, and Beyond she decided to act on it. We headed over to BB&B and picked up the Dyson Absolute. It was $499.99 but with the 20% off coupon we saved $100.

I have to say, after using this thing I’m really, really impressed. It’s much lighter than the Hoover and the overall design is much more user-friendly. For instance, the beater brush button on the Hoover was down on the floor whereas the button on the Dyson is up high on the handle, saving an annoying stooping down to turn the switch on or off. It glides over carpet and hard wood floors without virtually no effort, and the canister is really, really easy to empty.

And, of course, it doesn’t lose suction like our Hoover did.

We were spending about $100 per year on filters for the Hoover (if we changed it three times) so I figure after four years this thing has paid for itself (there is no filter to replace; just wash it out). Not to mention that the Hoover was plagued with problems, …read more »

Orson Was Accepted

Good news; Orson was accepted to Stix, the St. Louis City magnet school. We put him on the list some months back and he was initially rejected, probably due to age (they take four and five year olds before three year olds). About two weeks after that …read more »
