About This Site
I bought this domain back in 2001 primarily just to keep it out of the hands of imposters.
After squatting on it for two years I finally decided to do something with it and, subsequently, in January of 2003 BrianJarrett.com came online. In the beginning it was mainly a learning tool for me and provided very little content other than some poorly designed pages and a few photos. Eventually I added a photo gallery (now located on my family website) and the site was finally on its way to fulfilling its true purpose as a central point of communication with friends and family.
I also bought brianjarrett.net and brianjarrett.org a couple years ago. They just point back to this site. Sorry all you other Brian Jarretts out there; I guess the early bird gets the worm.
The site went through a major redesign in the spring of 2005 when I started learning about CSS and PHP. Then, in September of 2006, the site went through another major redesign; this time utilizing the power of Wordpress.
Throughout all this the site’s primary purpose has been for communication with a small number of people, namely people who have a vested interest in what’s going on with me. I will continue to use this site in the same manner going forward. I have no delusions of grandeur, no narcissistic or inflated view of my role in the world. I am what I am and a little glimpse of that is offered here for whatever it’s worth.
In February of 2006 I created a website for my family. This site now contains virtually all of the family-related content that used to live on this site. The family site is, and will continue to be, the home for my family tree, family photos, family news, or anything else Jarrett family related. It will not be the home for random silliness, my opinions, my rants against religion, my political views, or my various topics of interest. In other words, the family site is only for family stuff and this site is my only soapbox. Gather ’round, brothers and sisters.
If you are a religious fundamentalist then you might be outraged by some of the content on this site. This page is for you.
Although I try to test this site with Internet Explorer from time to time I use Firefox for everything. IE should behave similarly but it’s not impossible something slips through the cracks. Feel free to let me know or, better yet, start using Firefox. I also sometimes test with Safari and Opera when I have time.
As a side note, no Microsoft products were used to create this site. I use a Mac running Firefox to interface to Wordpress running on a Fedora Linux server. My Wordpress install uses a MySQL database running on Ubuntu Linux for its back end.
Ultimately I hope you’ll find some of the content on this site useful. However, if you don’t, then you can always change the channel. After all, the Internet is a really big place.
FACT: Chuck Norris does not know where you live, but he knows where you will die.
