Nitro Music Scene

In this section of the site you’ll find all things Nitro. Actually the scene spanned across Nitro, Charleston, and even Huntington during the mid-nineties but the “Nitro” name just seemed to stick.

In the sub sections of this portion of the site you’ll find some information about my old band, Flood. You’ll also be able to download some of our audio recordings and view some photos from back in the day. There are also many flyers from various shows in the area at the time and some live video footage from a few Flood shows. I’ve included some news articles from Charleston area newspapers and various memorabilia from the Nitro music scene that I collected over the years.  And before Flood there was The Great Big World; I’ve included some old audio tracks for posterity.

In addition to this memorabilia I’ve included my recollections of the scene and what it meant to me. There are also some older posts in the guestbook from others concerning the scene and their personal experiences. Also included is a list of bands that shared the scene together during this time. Where possible I’ve included small biography for some of these bands. The scene ended and people moved on; I’ve included what I know about some of them.

By the way, Dana White still publishes The Corn ‘Zine, albeit online now. He has info on the newer stuff going on in the scene. Dana was a regular of the scene around the time I was playing (he made lots of Flood t-shirts) and went on to play in his own band shortly after. If you poke around his site you can probably find some old stuff from back in the day.

Not surprisingly there’s a lot of Flood stuff here since I played in the band and I kept everything we did. If you have any audio or video recordings, flyers, photos, or anything else from your own band or another band that shared the scene-and you’d like to see it added here-contact me and let me know. It would be nice to see the scene represented as completely as possible. There’s also a forum in which you can talk about your experiences with one another if you’re interested.

I hope you find the stuff here interesting and entertaining. These were good times and I’m glad to be able to make some portion of it available to others.
