Election Day

My ballot has been cast and now it’s time to sit back and wait.  Traci and I went around 7:00 a.m. and we only waited about 20 minutes.  I’m hearing the wait is much longer now.  Looks like we must have lucked out.

Mac Conversion

I finally pulled the trigger; I’m now a Mac user. About a year ago Traci’s laptop’s video card mysteriously died so we bought her a replacement desktop computer. We were tight on cash so we bought a low-end Dell running Vista. I’ve lamented since then on my frustrations and disappointments with Vista and Traci absolutely despised it. It was then I began to think once again seriously of moving to Linux and avoiding an upgrade to Vista, but I found that Linux still just wasn’t quite there on the desktop yet. It was closer than it had been in the past but still not what I needed.

As a result I decided to take another look at the Macs. It had been a few years and since then OSX had been released and the prices had dropped some. Long story short, I began to think seriously about a Mac and began researching what it would take to switch from Windows. I found that it was easier than ever to make the switch.

So after about a year of Vista Traci finally had had enough. We decided to pull the trigger about two weeks ago on a new iMac for her. We received it on a Friday and had her completely moved over to the Mac by Sunday morning. After spending the weekend with her Mac I decided it was time to make the switch myself and ordered mine.

I originally thought I wanted the 24″ display but after working on Traci’s I decided 24″ might be a little too large. I instead opted for the 20″ display but increased the hard drive to 750 GB and the memory to 4 GB. I also bought the wireless keyboard and mouse …read more »

Sweeney Todd

Sweeney Todd

Traci and I just saw Sweeney Todd tonight and it was excellent. Bloody and depressing, but excellent. It was adapted from a musical but the movie ran like a play so the singing didn’t really seem out of context.

Oh, and our ten year anniversary was on the third. It’s hard to believe we’ve come so far in ten years.

Independence Day

Bitchin’ Eagle FlagToday we took Orson to his grandparents’ house to swim. He actually hadn’t been in a pool for over a year. The good news is that Orson loved the pool this time. Before he would just sit in the pool and do absolutely nothing. The look on his face was as stoic as could be possible. This time around, however, it was exactly the opposite. Initially he was hesitant about getting in but once in he walked all over the little pool playing with toys, splashing, and laughing. We then took him to the larger pool and played with him there. It was cold but after he got used to it he laughed and played and seemed to be having a great time. After that we had dinner at Traci’s parents’ house before returning home. We skipped the fireworks this year again but we’re hoping …read more »

A Very Poopy Christmas Eve

On December 24th, 2002 we had snow accumulation of maybe three to five inches and the roads were a little slippery. Normally on Christmas Eve Traci and I would go to her parents’ church services but that year, due to the weather, we decided it would be for the best if we stayed home. Since we were going to be home that year Traci and I decided we should go out to eat. I wasn’t even aware that restaurants were open on Christmas Eve. My car wasn’t drivable due to a radiator problem so we took Traci’s car down to the local Applebee’s on Chippewa and Kingshighway.

As we sat there eating copious amounts of food and watching the beautiful snow fall all around us an idea hit me; this should …read more »

Where’s the old BrianJarrett.com?

If you’ve been to the site before you’ve probably noticed that this time you went directly to the weblog (or blog) instead of going to the old site. Well, I’ve decided to trash the old site and move brianjarrett.com completely into a blog.

I started out with this site as my only site and it was easier to focus all my attention on it then. A couple years later I bought domains for Traci and Orson but soon after decided that I should just create a website for the whole family and give everyone subdomains. Orson and Traci both …read more »
